DAY 40

Jesus of the day: "Happiness Is A Glue Gun #1"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 Jesus to go. My wife came over tonight and although she hasn't been here as much as me sche reacted pretty much in same way I'm reacing when I come home every night: Almost not at all. And my walls are plastered with Jesus images. In our apartment in Neu-Ulm there are maybe three small crosses somewhere and that's it.

Still, she didn't react too strongly to the 50 Jesus images staring at us here. It's probably because Jesus is so well integrated into our lives here in Germany. I don't know what it is like for kids these days, but when I think back, Jesus was a strong part of my childhood, although my parents didn't talk about it at all.

But in kindergarden and in school, especially up to age 10 or so, religion and Jesus was prominent. Not so much as a dogma, but as an idea and in the case of Jesus as a person. I can't remember "suffering" being as prominent a theme though.

I have to admit that I was fascinated by Jesus and God when I was a kid. I guess I even drew God as a guy with a long white beard. And then we lived right next to a protestant church and we would always play with the priests kids and go over for afternoon activities organized by the church. When and why I decided that I didn't want to join the club, I can't say. I guess it had to do with puberty and a sudden fondness of communism and Che Guevara ...
