Livin' With Jesus
JESUS # 01

"Andenken an die Erste Heilige Kommunion"

This is the first Jesus posted here because it is also the first Jesus I bought for this project. In fact, it is the first Jesus I bought in my entire life.

I wasn't raised in a religious way. My mother didn't have me baptized, I guess she wanted me to have to chance to decide for myself. And she gave the possibility to simply decide "for" something. If you are a protestant and decide that Bhuddism suits you better, you have to decide against something first. Not very comfortable, I guess.

Back to this Jesus: I bought it on a flea market in Ichenhausen, Germany (view Google map), which is not far from where I live. It was shortly after I had decided to actually do this project, thanks to talks with Christian Schwarm and the Artist Petri Ala-Maunus.

When I entered the flea market site, this Jesus lay as one of the first items on the first table of the very first stand.

I was a little shy at first because I somehow felt that you are only allowed to buy Jesus if you actually believe in God in some way. I got over that feeling quickly and bought three more Jesus images at that same flea market.

BTW: I still haven't decided for a religion. I guess I never will. The only thing I realize is that my values and my ideas of how life has to work for me is not too far from most peaceful religions.
