Livin' With Jesus
JESUS # 07

"Jesus at the table"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This Jesus was sent framed and in relatively good shape. But he went through a lot. After Iplaced the winning bid of one (1) Euro at ebay and promptly paid, Jesus never was delivered. So I sent the seller an email and asked him whether Jesus was on his way or not.

I was informed that they had to check their storage room to see if they could find him. Once they found him they asked if I could collect the image because it was so big and they didn't know how to pack it. So I said 'No and I have paid for the shipment' so they said, ok.

Some time later, Jesus still wasn't there. So I emailed them again and asked what happened. They informed me that Jesus came back all broke and torn up if I still wanted the picture. I replied "sure".

So they sent him again and this time he came. The frame all broken, the glass missing and the image torn up. All very well destroyed by the german mail and then carefully repackaged by "Depot 189".

To be honest, I like him better now. The frame really was kind of ugly. Now on the black canvas and with the huge tear, severing the heads of the three, this motive comes out much stronger.

Also notice the background (top left): This could have been the invention of the Hawaiian Shirt. The palm trees, the sunset ... don't you think?

On a more serious note, this motive shows the moment after Jesus was crucified. Two of his disciples wandered towards Emaus, all sad and gloomy, when they were joined by a stranger. It is only when they have dinner with him and he breaks the bread and hands it to them that they realize: It's Jesus! And then Jesus is gone. The message is: Death is not the end.
