JESUS # 17 - May 12th

It is a rather common motive this one, Mary with the baby Jesus. I picked this image however because Mary has an age that seems to be more realistic for the time than any other image I've seen.

I would guess that 2000 Years ago the average age for a mother to give birth to her first child was under 20 and probably close to under 15. Since it is not indicated that Mary was a particularly old mother, as I'm sure would have been rather unusual at the time, this image here is very realistic.

I have also been told that the frame is something you wouldn't get very often today, as it has been made by a carpenter out of real wood, while today it would be fabricated in a factory from pressed sawdust.

Despite the fact that the proportions of Jesus a little on the awkward side and that he is again very blonde and very blue eyed, the image has a strong effect on some viewers (mostly female ones). And it also sparked a spontaneous comment on flickr, which is a first, I think.
