Livin' With Jesus

JESUS # 21

"2000 Years of Christianity"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a stamp from Georgia. Not the US-State, the country. They were celebrating 2000 years of christianity, which I found somewhat moving.

It's the tiniest image (my measurements include the frames, however) along with Jesus number 26. I haven't explored the area of religious stamps further but I guess it's a big market. I just wonder how the staff in post offices feel if they have to put a stamp on Jesus' face. Probably depends on their level of belief and respect for such a religious icon. And what does the person think who's licking the back of the stamp? Is that like a holy act or something?

I'm not sure however if the usual system applies, here. Usually, you got to hit it big to make it on a stamp. It's like an honour to have your own stamp. A stamp of Jesus today feels to me like a downgrade for Jesus. After all, he is supposed to be the son of God and we put him in line with politicians of sometimes questionable values, with machines, architecture and other man made things.

Then again, maybe that's where Jesus belongs: With the man made things. In case he didn't exist like many people believe.

Usually I wouldn't think about things like that, this is just due to the project. No, in fact I do think things like that all the time, don't worry.
