JESUS # 23 - May 20th

This is station 13 of the way of the cross. The motiv is, as I have learned just recently, a lamentation, since there are several people with Jesus after he had been taking down from the cross. If it were just Mary it would be a Pietà.

This motive appeared alone in my collection and one of my guests, a retired protestant priest, told me that this might be because it has been given as a gift to a kid at a religious ceremony.

What I like about it is that the number 13 is one of the numbers with higher symbolic powers. For most it's about bad luck, for some it's good luck, but try to get hotel room number 13. No way. Also, the station number 13 in the way of the cross could be seen as the "middle", because there are 13 other stations left, 12 before, one after.

Because of this, that image is a very strong one for me because it gets my mind to try and figure out a reason, trying to find connections ... I almost immediately started creating stories. And that's not even including the motive ...
