JESUS # 44 - July
22nd
"Haussegen"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It used to be a must have article in every house within the christian
community. I wonder how many people still have it today: a "house
blessing".
The sentence on this handmade item says, rougly translated: Blessed be
those who frequent this house. People used to have pictures like that.
When there was a quarrel in the family, there was a saying referring to
the very picture. It was said, that the "house blessing" is
askew.
The saying is still used today. But the image seems to be gone.
If you look at Jesus # 43 you'll see that it's almost tzhe identical Jesus
picture. The merchandising machinery of the church spreading out.
All the typing on this one however and the ornaments are hand stitched
onto a canvas which is then framed. It must have been a tradition in thiose
times to have someone around the house who could do these things. I bet
my grandmother and mother in law could actually do that. Peobably my grandmother
in law has done something along these lines. She is almost 100 years now.
So chances are she did.
