JESUS # 49 - July

"Bild Dir Dein Jesus"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On October X 200X, the German publication BILD Zeitung ()
"gave away" this artwork by the Austrian artist Prof. Ernst
Fuchs ().
I hadn't heard of Fuchs before and given the level of "truth"
in the BILD Zeitung I doubted that it is in fact a "famous painter"
as they claimed Prof. Fuchs to be.
However, as I learned during my research, Fuchs is quite well known, at
least in Austria, whose almost Dali-esque paintings often play with religious
symbols, sometimes even turning them around, as in his work "Satan's
Heaven" ()
from 1954.
What made him paint this Jesus that sort of reminds of Mona Lisa (),
I can't say and I have to admit that I didn't ask him until now. But I#ve
just sent an email. We'll see, if he gets back to me.
I already mentioned the similarity to the Mona Lisa (which exists at least
to the untrained eye), but there is more to it that I like. In the same
issue, there is an article about the dead Mother Therese, the Pope (not
the German Benedikt), and obviously there are lots of tits in it.
It somehow does fit that the paper for the least common denominator offers
a Jesus artwork as full sized poster. However, I wonder whether they could
actually create a boom in Christianity. WIth this one, they obviously
failed, probably because the artistic value was slightly to high for their
average reader. It would habe been better prbably, if Sigfried's and Roy's
Tiger had pooped a vaguely Jesus-shaped dump onto their masters white
leather sofa.
